When we reach two 21 day periods with no new cases, we will be at goal. Until then, people need to be fed, and cared for -- and well trained public health professionals are needed, on the ground -- as we close this out. The added $7 million will help do just that:
. . .The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will provide an additional USD $7 million toward Rwanda’s response to the Marburg Viral Disease (MVD) outbreak. In partnership with the Rwandan Ministry of Health, this funding will be used to help end the MVD outbreak. The funds will address the remaining needs in Rwanda’s national MVD response that include case management, contact tracing, and infection prevention and control. . . .
Since the start of the outbreak, the United States has now committed over USD $8.35 million in emergency funding, donated nearly 2,000 testing kits, delivered essential medical supplies to frontline medical workers, and brought teams of U.S. medical experts to assist with disease detection and surveillance. Under the excellent leadership of the Ministry of Health, Rwanda has rapidly implemented effective measures to safeguard the health of its citizens. This new funding will further strengthen Rwanda’s disease preparedness and response and advance the global health security agenda. . . .
Now you know -- looking forward to Bey's-star-power in Houston tonight, to amp up youthful voters nationwide! Onward!
