Pennsylvania Merck To Shed 163 Jobs This Year: Cherokee Facility Closing Out.

We have been covering this for 16 years, now minimum. The ups and downs, the sale to a minority-owned vendor, the repurchase of the same by Merck. All of it -- at least 20 stories. [Just search "Cherokee" in the box.] It looks like it is finally. . . here.

The Cherokee plant will end careers for 163 people, minimum now -- thus (per FiercePharma):

. . .The pharma giant will cut 163 jobs at its Cherokee manufacturing plant in Riverside, Pennsylvania, through three rounds of cuts, according to a state notice that cites a site closure as the reason for the workforce reduction. . . .

Merck has been planning to phase out the antibiotics manufacturing plant for several years. The site previously produced nonsterile imipenem and cilastatin for the antibiotics Primaxin/Tienam and Recarbrio, plus ertapenem sodium for Invanz. . . .

Even though long expected, this is tought news. Getting rolling, after a bunch of late night flights. Gotta' get my 2025 brackets picked -- for mens and womens -- and turned in, against Mr. Obama now too. Onward.
