This Third Indictment Addresses Whether We Will Remain A Nation Of Ordered Liberty, With Checks And Balances -- Or Just A Mob-Ruled Darwinian Bunch Of Thugs.

Much more so than the earlier two felony indictments, with now over 80 counts in the aggregate, this one strikes at -- and will ask judges to decide -- who we will be, as a nation.

It is nearly impossible to overstate the historic importance (and peril) of this moment. Perhaps not since the signing of the Declaration, or the end of the Civil War. . . have we, as a people, been at such a defining. . . fork in the road.

The attack on our nation’s capital on January 6, 2021, was an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy. As described in the indictment, it was fueled by lies. The men and women of law enforcement who defended the U.S. Capitol on January 6 are heroes. They’re patriots, and they are the very best of us. They did not just defend a building or the people sheltering in it. They put their lives on the line to defend who we are as a country and as a people. They defended the very institutions and principles that define the United States. . . .

For my part, I am encouraged. We will collectively turn our back on this would be despot. While he belongs in jail, it almost doesn't matter to me whether he is incarcerated eventually now.
