[U X2: Kentucky, As Well] At The 5,000 Employee Facilities-Complex In Bessemer, Alabama -- Amazon Receives Two New NLRB Charging Letters, Overnight...

Updated: 07.12.2022 -- Here is the charging document, now FOIA-ed. This is the same union that narrowly lost a vote in these facilities late last year.

It is hard to overstate how much the organized labor world has expanded / risen -- in public esteem, and actual bargaining power, post the JFK8 win by Christian Smalls. This, however is an older line union, making the twin charges.

UPDATED End of Day July 8 -- It turns out (according to local press reports) that Kentucky (Campbellville, outside Louisville) will be host to the first outside New York union contract with Mr. Smalls' ALU as the collective bargaining party. So that makes... three -- in about 24 hours, covering multiple thousands of workers each. End of updated portion.

Here are the case numbers (all associated documents, for all charges we've mentioned in the past two weeks, are still in the throes of the federal FOIA process. . . so we wait):

. . .Case Number: 10-CA-298931

Date Filed: 07/07/2022

Status: Open

Location: Bessemer, AL

Region Assigned: Region 10, Atlanta, Georgia. . . .

Case Number: 10-CA-298933

Date Filed: 07/07/2022

Status: Open

Location: Bessemer, AL

Region Assigned: Region 10, Atlanta, Georgia. . . .

Be excellent to one another this weekend, as we all have special birthday celebrations afoot. . . grin.

Speaking on Unions.

Early on Trump issued 3 executive orders against Federal employee unions.

https://nffe.org/nffe_news/president-trumps-union-busting-executive-orders-what-you-need-to-know/

One item was to prevent union officials from spending time defending federal employees. To this end a talking point he used was that they were spending their time arguing about office assignments, and so weren't doing their regular work.

Under the contracts office assignments are supposed to be based on seniority so that they are not used as political cudgel's. Consequently, when the party in power wants to attack an agency's ability to function and harass and fire honest certain employees they also start to reassign offices. They do this so people will complain to the union so the union has to deal with this in addition to the employees (and whistleblowers) who are trying to defend the public. (I saw this at the FDA.)

If there are union officials who abuse their position to not do work they're typically the type of people who also won't fulfill their union responsibilities. Consequently, they will eventually be voted out anyway. (I also saw this.)

This canard about the Unions arguing about office assignments has been raised by other Republicans again.

It should be remembered that Federal Employees can't strike and that pay and benefits are set by Congress and are beyond negotiating. Therefore Federal union contracts are really just there to protect the honest worker from harassment for political or personal reasons. Consequently, no matter if you're on the right or left people should be grateful for federal employee unions because otherwise when the party in power changes the people who are most closely aligned with whatever side you're on will have no one with experience to help protect them from attacks.

Outstanding!

Thank you so much -- and yes, I've not covered the egregious labor union-busting of Tangerine here, before -- but it certainly was. . . pernicious.

I think the tide has turned -- his MAGA minions are now reaping what they've sown.

And that is all good, by my lights.

Perhaps I'll do a deeper dive on all of this, after we see the early deep space images, tomorrow.

Thanks -- and. . . onward!
