The allegations, already largely proved by original documents obtained in The New York Times' 2019 reporting on the case, include that Tangerine inflated the values of his properties to get loans from banks, while at the same time, minimized the value of the same properties -- for the purpose of paying his New York taxes.
This is garden variety business fraud -- and this case is civil, at the moment -- but the criminal investigation continues toward an indictment.
In any event, if he fails to pay, and comes inside New York state for any appearance. . . he may be arrested and jailed, for contempt.
It is all unraveling now, for Team Tangerine:
". . .Mr. Trump, I know you take your business seriously and I take mine seriously. I hereby hold you in civil contempt and fine you $10,000 per day until you purge that contempt," Engoron said at a hearing Monday. A written decision with a start date for fines is expected Tuesday. . . .
Perfect.
