[U: Suit Copy.] In Addition To The NAACP And The ACLU, DoJ Files A Lawsuit Against Georgia's "2021 Jim Crow" Anti-Voting Laws, As Denying Federally-Granted Voting Rights.

The fact that the US Justice Department will also bring suit almost certainly spells the end for these discriminatory laws. The ACLU and NAACP got there first, to be sure, and deserve much credit -- but there is little chance now that the measures, which clearly restrict federally guaranteed minimum voting rights. . . will be in force, for the 2022 cycle.

That is good news for people who believe the electorate actually allowed to vote ought to approximate the make up of the adult society in Georgia [and the USA, more broadly], and not just relatively-wealthy whites with access to private transportation, and people who can afford to take multiple days off of work to register -- under these restrictive measures, for example. We will post the DoJ complaint right here, when it is as filed (updated for the link). That will likely be later this evening.

From the Wa Po, this morning then:

. . .The Justice Department will file a federal lawsuit Friday against the state of Georgia for its efforts to enact new voting restrictions that federal authorities allege discriminate against Black Americans, according to people familiar with the matter.

The legal challenge takes aim at Georgia’s Election Integrity Act, which was passed in March by the Republican-led state legislature and signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp (R). The law imposes new limits on the use of absentee ballots, makes it a crime for outside groups to provide food and water to voters waiting at polling stations, and hands greater control over election administration to the state legislature. . . .

This is the Merrick Garland approach I long expected to see. Grin. Onward, to "a new day, a new dawn. . . and a better life", for us all. Smile. . . .
