Merck's Mr. Frazier Need Not Retire At End Of 2019; Settlement Talks In Asylum Families Class Action In San Diego...

First, as this blog has a decade-long, and proud, legacy of tracking Kenilworth news, Merck's board has voted to rescind the mandatory age 65 retirement rule (in place for over a decade), at Merck. This is solely due to the fact that the company knows it needs him (and previously worried about mediocre guys hanging around too long). That's great news -- for the shareholders (even if Mr. Frazier exercised and sold a small portion of his options under a pre-approved, automated plan, recently).

Now, next up -- since it appears that settlement talks are progressing (per the last 17 page status report), the able Judge Sabraw has put a two week breather in the previously-weekly Friday status calls:

. . . .ORDER Setting Further Status Conference.

A status conference was held on September 21, 2018. A further status conference shall be held on October 9, 2018, at 1:00 p.m.

Signed by Judge Dana M. Sabraw on 9/25/2018. . .

That too is potentially very good news for the families ripped apart by 45. There is likely to be a "never again" condition, as a central feature -- of this settlement. All of which is consistent with the already in force Flores terms.

Onward.

Meanwhile, in LA, the able Judge Gee just named a new Special Master, since the Asst. AG complained about her first, very qualified choice.

Here that is -- just entered, on PACER:

". . .the Court nominates Andrea Sheridan Ordin to the position of Special Master/Independent Monitor.

By no later than 10/1/2018, the parties shall file a joint status report indicating whether they have any objections to the appointment of Ms. Ordin as the Special Master/Independent Monitor
. . . ."

Here is a partial bio for Ms. Ordin.

Be careful what you wish for, 45. . . that's the object lesson here. And here is an updated 2017 bio for her.
