Regulatory Changes To Affect New Merck's Coppertone® Tan-Lines?

This is, perhaps surprisingly, from Whitehouse Station's own presser. Don't get me wrong -- I think it a good idea -- to reel in these largely self-inflated claims issuing from most major sunscreen makers.

I am just disappointed it is taking the threat of legislation to get it done:

. . . .Sun Protection Factor Caps (SPF): SPF values may be capped (for example, a proposed cap of SPF 50+ might be enacted).

Expression of Claims: Claims language on sunscreen labels could change. For instance, the word "sunblock" may no longer be permitted to appear anywhere on product labeling. All products would be labeled "sunscreens". . . .

A good start, indeed -- as we should expect that a science company's claims comport with the actual science on the matter.
