And Some NASA/JPL Eye Candy -- As We Approach Four Days From Annihilation...

So now we are very near the bittersweet, blazingly fleet-footed end of Cassini:

. . . .The Cassini mission’s epic 13-year exploration of Saturn is coming to a close. On Sept. 15, the spacecraft will make a planned plunge into the atmosphere of Saturn in order to protect pristine icy moons that warrant future exploration. As the mission nears its end, team members reflect on this historic, international collaboration. . . .

Now you know; g'night -- onward -- to a busy new week ahead!

So sorry -- crazy day in the shop! I'll get a look at this, late this evening...

Namaste, and thanks!

Having now read of the ghostwriting on the opinion pages of STAT item...

I certainly do value STAT's content generally. Ed Silverman in particular is top notch.

And while I find sock puppets tedious, I worry less about their appearance on opinion pages, than inside "peer reviewed" scientific journal papers.

There the fight should be relentless. But I kind of always assumed the submitted opinion pieces are just that: opinions.

I'll rely on the marketplace of ideas (like Slate) to self correct deceptive opinion pieces.

I guess all in all I think there are more pressing threats to robust independent science than ghosted opinions, in newspapers of general circulation.

But I wouldn't encourage the practice, to be clear.

Namaste... and onward -- Marty Shkreli likely goes to jail -- in about eleven elapsed hours, from now.
