Building Permit Issued To Merck For $7 Million Fill-Line Expansion In Cleveland, Tennessee

Well, even as Merck-izens throughout New Jersey are hearing that they've been let go, by the hundreds, just a stretch west and south of there, in Cleveland, Tennessee, Merck is busy building an additional 30,000 square feet of single dose solid-pill production capacity, to the tune of $7 million in cap ex, at a legacy Schering-Plough facility. The new capacity is expected to be online by this time next year (image of the facility at right derived from Google Maps, Street View -- we have will improved image quality with when my old school Photoshop 7.0 image editor is available -- doing this via iPhone). Per the local Cleveland newspapers -- do go read it all:

. . . .The value of building permits issued by the city of Cleveland in September fell slightly short of $8.709 million recorded in May, the highest point of 2011.

A single permit pulled by Yonkers Industries for a fill-line relocation project at Schering-Plough/Merck at 4207 Michigan Avenue Road accounted for almost all of the $8,033,997 in construction activity for September.

Fred Malley director, Global Communications of Merck Manufacturing Division in Whitehouse Station, N.J., said the $7 million project is expected to be completed by October 2012 and add 30,000 square feet of new packaging area.

“This is a multipart project that involves renovating, reconfiguring and expanding an existing area in a building where we package several Merck over-the-counter products. . . .

Of course, we will keep you posted.
