Small World! -- Transocean Ltd. Taps Merck's Vioxx® Lawyer: Law.com

Who could have guessed that my off-topic image would "transmorgify -- to on-topic" -- in just three days' time?

With "top kill" an epic fail, and the possibility of cutting the riser-pipe clean away, and putting a new collecting "top hat" over the ferocious gusher -- clearly a high-risk maneuver -- Transocean (one of BP's partners on the Deepwater Horizon rig project) has tapped one of Merck's Vioxx® lawyers, to handle fallout, and the burgeoning mass tort litigation, according to Law.com:

. . . .John Beisner, a partner in Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom's Washington office who specializes in mass tort defense, is working with Transocean Ltd. . . .

A decade ago, when Beisner was an O'Melveny & Myers partner, he represented Ford Motor Co. regarding defects in more than 60 million tires, and he was part of the legal team in 2007 for Merck & Co. in litigation over its prescription pain killer, Vioxx. . . .

So, that's BP's 2010 gulf oil slick -- to Vioxx. . . in one (for those of you "six degrees" fans). Wild.
