Here Comes Generic Simvastatin -- Zocor® Sales Continue To Dip In US

Is this the "middle of the end," for branded Zocor® (simvastatin)? See this -- just released:

. . . .Mylan Inc. today announced that its subsidiary Matrix Laboratories Limited has received final approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Simvastatin Tablets USP, 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg and 80 mg, the generic version of Merck's Zocor® Tablets, a treatment for high cholesterol. The product will be distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Simvastatin had U.S. sales of approximately $361 million for the 12 months ending March 31, 2010, according to IMS Health. . . .

Note that Zocor lost exclusivity in 2006 -- but few forms of generic simvastatin are now available. This makes one more.
