Kenilworth's Response to Last Night's ~$2.5 Billion Wellington Sell-Off News?

. . . .Announce the launch of [another] "me too!" product. Meanwhile, over at Whitehouse Station, Merck took the rather unusual step of putting out its own release, to counter all the coverage of Fosamax's first trial date.

Yet, and still, both stocks are falling on the NYSE, this morning. Here is a snippet from the Schering-Plough presser:

. . . .Schering-Plough Corporation today announced the launch of CLARITIN Eye, an antihistamine eye drop strong enough to control itchy eyes all day or all night. Found in the eye care aisle wherever over-the-counter products are sold, CLARITIN Eye works in minutes to relieve the itch of allergy eyes for up to 12 hours with just one drop.

"Itchy eyes are an extremely bothersome symptom for allergy sufferers and can be caused by indoor or outdoor allergens such as dust, pet dander, mold or pollen. CLARITIN Eye relieves the itch at the source by blocking the histamine that causes itchy eyes," said Dr. John O'Mullane, group vice president, research and development, Schering-Plough Consumer HealthCare. "We're excited to add this new allergy eye product to the line of non-drowsy CLARITIN allergy products."

To support the introduction of the new product, the makers of CLARITIN will kick off the launch with national advertising as well as launching the brand's first official Facebook page. The page features a "CLARITIN Eye Makeover" application where fans are invited to upload their favorite photos and use the application to clear the red eye in their pictures. The page, available at facebook.com/claritineye, offers resources for allergy sufferers including facts, tips and a photo gallery where visitors can show how they "Live Claritin Clear®". . . .

Really. Complete with its own lame red-eye photo-editing Facebook page(?!). Yawn.

[Okay. I'll not-so-sheepishly admit it -- I put all the above text up, just so I could load the graphic, at right (click to enlarge it), and have it sit flush in the post. So, you don't actually need bother with reading the Schering-Plough presser, in blue above.]

While still in agreement with you for a general 'yawn' over the release of Claritin eye drops..release that Patanol (the Rx H1 eye drop) generated $280M in 2008. So, it is worth something better than French ocean water.

Make that 'realize' for release.
